Cre8ive ideas for increasing links to your site

Building links to your website should form a vital part of your Internet Marketing strategy. Links form an essential part of the way search engines rank a website as they are seen as "votes" for your site.

Google uses a page-ranking system to measure a web page's "importance" and ranks pages through analysis of the relevance of material as well as internal and external hyperlinks.

In cyberspace, links give increased weight to your website so it's in your interests to spend time developing an intelligent link campaign.

Think creatively when it comes to recruiting links to your website. Links can come from a variety of places you might never have thought of and we have listed eight ideas to inject life into your links.

The important thing to note is that good content, whether pictorial, interactive or text, should be at the forefront of your strategy. If you can provide a valuable resource or feature you will be rewarded with links and visitors.

The PPC past
MSN previously displayed results from Overture alongside their search results, Yahoo! bought over Overture in 2003 and MSN branched out from Overture in 2005. So Yahoo!'s change of hat has been a long time in the pipeline.

A comScore study found that Yahoo's new Panama paid search platform has improved click-through rates since its introduction in February 2007.

Yahoo! is wearing a new hat

Pay Per Click advertising from Yahoo! was a simple affair before, the highest bid won the highest position in the sponsored section of the search engine results. However the company has donned a new hat - a Panama, which means that it's brimming with new ideas.

The changes to the advertising platform means cheaper advertising, better performance and increased traffic from sponsored adverts. Yahoo! Panama uses similar features from other Pay Per Click Advertisers and hopes to steal some of the market that Google AdWords and MSN adCenter enjoy.

The new system has been introduced in the USA where some advertisers have already seen an increase in click-through rates. It's still being rolled out to some advertisers in the UK so, if your account hasn't changed yet, then it will soon.

Ch-Ch Changes for Google Maps and Google Co-op

Google has made adjustments to two products, meaning more detailed listings in Google Maps (formerly Google Local) and specialised searches in Google Co-op.

You can now add pictures and extra information to your listing in Google Maps to make it more compelling and Google Co-op has a new "customised search" feature which could reward you with ad revenue if used in conjunction with AdWords.

If you've never heard of Google Maps or Google Co-op you might want to learn more before I take you through the changes. Find out more about Google Co-op or read about Google Maps.
